AHTS "Arctic" joins the Fleet together with 6 new RoRo barges and 2 Chemical TankersIn the busiest 12 months for new tonnage ever Silverburn Group has had delivered or purchased a total of 10 units

These comprise of our “flagship” the new build AHTS “Arctic”, the Chemical tankers “Silver Freya” and “Silver Kenna”, 3 new RoRo barges from Lotus Shipyard, “Ark-10”, “Ark-11” and “Ark-12” (Ark-12 will be handed over in July 2013) and from Damen Shipyards the “Ark-13”, “Ark-14” and “Ark-15”. Finally the purchase and conversion of the IMO-2 tank barge “Nerida”.

The Arctic joined the fleet in the Caspian in January 2013 and is working on the Kashagan project since delivery. Her Ice class 1A classification, manoeuvrability, fuel efficiency, cargo capacity and shallow draft give her a unique range of abilities within her 50 meter length.

The 6 RoRo barges have been designed and ordered with the specific purpose of giving Silverburn options in the oversize and overweight cargo markets which are now being developed for projects in the Caspian. Whilst our versatile and reliable 16801 barges are the workhorses of the trade, many clients need RoRo capable barges to overcome loading and discharging restriction at ports in the Azov and Caspian seas. These 6 units will start to fill this gap and the 5 so far delivered are already employed for the 2013 season.

The “Nerida” is a tank barge purchased for a major client with a demanding time scale of delivery and specification, the refit which took 6 months enabled her to meet all their needs and she is now on long term hire.
